How many Chinese new year animals are there?

There are 12 Chinese new year animals as the Chinese lunar calendar follows a 12 year cycle. Each Chinese year signifies an animal and they come one after another in a cycle.

The animals are Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, and Dragon. The current year 2016 is the Year of the Monkey, and the next year 2017 is gonna be the Year of the Rooster.
